Investigate how the use of tobacco, inhalants and vaping can harm your body. Examine the dangers of smoking,inhalant abuse and vaping in these cross-curricular activities below. Detailed lesson plans make implementation a snap.

  • Pretest

    This is an independent student activity testing their knowledge regarding the dangers of using drugs. Students will maneuver through the Huffin’ ‘N’ Puffin’ classroom and answer multiple-choice questions. Individuals will be able to proceed at their own pace and answers will be anonymous.

  • The Case of Cig Shady

    This teacher-led activity focuses on the impact of smoking on the respiratory system. Alistair Sleuth leads you through an investigation of “Cig Shady Chef.” Through this investigation you will get facts about cigarettes. You’ll be given links to click on and investigate the respiratory systems of a smoker and a non-smoker, how to spot a smoker, and the dangers of secondhand smoke. The students will get to see “Cig Shady Chef” in action as he’s adding ingredients to cigarettes. The activity ends by Alistair Sleuth telling the students that he needs their help to stop the dangers of smoking. A link is given to see actual photos of lung disease.

  • The Case of the Evil Tower of Tar

    In this animated activity, students will observe the accumulation of tar in the lungs from smoking after only one year in Cig Shady Chef’s In thilaboratory. Alistair Sleuth will guide the students in this “drag” and “drop” activity. A healthy set of lungs will be polluted with 12 bundles of cigarettes, containing 900 cigarettes. This is an average of a month’s smoking about 1 ½ packs of cigarettes per day. It will be shocking to see the amount of tar that builds up in the lungs after only one year of smoking.

  • Huffin' 'N' Puffin' WebQuest

    This is an independent student activity focusing on drugs and how they affect the body. Students will link to websites to find clues, which help them to better understand the mystery behind drugs. As they find the necessary clues within each website, students will record their answers on the worksheet provided.

  • The Case of the Snapster

    Got nerves? Actually, you have millions of nerves in your body. In this animated activity, students will learn about drugs and about how they affect the nervous system. This mystery will be solved with the help of Alistair Sleuth and Snapster. In this interactive activity, students will observe the affects of drugs stimulating and depressing Snapster’s nervous system. So, get ready to solve the mystery of drugs and the body’s reaction in The Case of the Snapster.

  • The Case of the Brain Drain

    In this animated activity, Cig Shady Chef is challenging the students to fill in the correct letters to the clues he provides. If students provide correct letters, then the brain will remain healthy and alert! If they select an incorrect answer, the brain will be darkened. This illustrates that drugs can actually drain the brain.

  • You Smoke, You Choke

    Students will work together in small groups, visiting various websites and cutting out images from magazines, to create an anti-smoking collage. They will illustrate why children should not smoke, including the dangers of tobacco use.

  • Peer Pressure Challenge

    Are your students up for the challenge – to resist peer pressure? In this three-part activity, students will explore peer pressure and apply their knowledge in role playing and story telling situations where peer pressure could influence their choices.

  • The Case of the Nine Squares

    Students will join Alistair Sleuth, the Huffin’ ‘N’ Pufifn’ cast of characters, and the “usual suspects” for a game of tic-tac-toe. This “Hollywood Squares”-style review game will put students knowledge to the test as they answer questions related to the dangers of tobacco and inhalants.

  • What's In a Vape?

    There are many myths about vaping and why vaping is dangerous for adolescents. In this activity, students will work independently or with a partner on this activity focusing on the dangers of vaping. Students will discover what is really in a vape, why it can be dangerous and the side effects of vaping on the adolescent body. Students will make a personal pledge not to vape and harm their bodies.
